Love this A/C. August 26, 2008 J. Hopkins (New York City) 39 out of 41 found this review helpful
I am so far extremely pleased with this air conditioner. It's very well designed and as an engineer, albeit industrial engineer, it's well built and is impressive in it's cooling ability. Very nice styling overall but surprisinly heavy given the size. I would give this top marks in all categories.
Good Air Conditioner July 12, 2009 Laura 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
Great unit, I bought it to cool off the upstairs hallway and bathroom. It actually cools off the whole second floor of my home which keeps the downstairs cooler. Most portables have to be emptied everyday but this unit doesnt need to be emptied for at least a week (I know hard to believe). I like that it has two intakes on both sides and they are easy to clean. It isnt as heavy as my other portable units. I didnt have any problems with shipping. I am really happy with the unit, as a matter of fact, I am buying another one today and throwing out the old one that leaks all over my floor!
Surprisingly stylish, satisfyingly powerful April 14, 2010 Ben Ahmes (NY, NY) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Whynter SNO 13,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner - Frost WhiteWhynter SNO 13,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner - Platinum Silver
We live in a charming walkup in NYC and at the price we paid, anyone else would expect all the frills. Having been born and raisedin NYC, I knew better. We researched every possible style of window units but could not live with an ugly metal box sticking out of our window. We eventually decided that portable units would be somewhat more discrete.
We searched high and low and finally settled on this as the best balance in style, quality and performance. Purchasing was a easy and shipping was fast. I was very very impressed once I had unpacked the unit. From a design standpoint, I couldn't have asked for more. The unit sits low and is unobtrusive, very nice lines and overall shape. We had decided on the silver one and were thrilled by the finish of the unit.
We put it to use on a particularly steamy afternoon and were not disappointed. Installation was not difficult considering I had never used a portable unit before. The living room were we installed it is about 25x18 and faces northhwest so it does catch a good amount of afternoon sun. The Whynter portable managed to cool our living room in no time at all. We were sitting in a comfortable 70F in less than 20 mins. The unit itself is heavy but has oversized rear wheels and a very cool pull strap that conceals itself very smartly (you'll see why when you get it).
Thoroughly pleased with this air conditioner from every perspective. I would heartily recommend this to anyone willing to spend a few extra bucks for a superior product.
Everything I want in a portable a/c June 1, 2010 L. Rost (Tucson, AZ) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is almost exactly what I was looking for. I'm so happy I found something that matched what I needed almost perfectly. I want a very compact style unit that was had at least 9000 BTU in cooling. Preferably something stylish and unobtrusive. The one ding would be the weight of the unit but the ease of which you can roll it around makes it a non-factor. It has worked marvelously in muggy East Coast heat and I will put it to the test in dry hot weather. Genuinely happy with it.
Good product - VERY poor shipping protection June 30, 2009 E. Stiff 17 out of 22 found this review helpful
After doing about a week's worth of research regarding potential portable air conditioners, it became clear that this was the best of the bunch...especially for the price. It is a nice, heavy unit, blows out a lot of cool air and is not difficult to operate. If it weren't for the shipping, I would give this product 5 stars.
Although I only read one complaint about the condition of the unit upon arrival, I have to believe there are many others who haven't chimed in with their experiences. We received the first unit by UPS and when we opened it, the unit was covered in oil. We wiped off the oil and gave it a shot, it didn't cool anything and it smelled like burning oil. After a couple of days of working with Whynter's product support we returned the unit. The second unit then arrived, with a much smaller amount of oil but still some. After hooking it up, it was clear that it did not work either. I was certain we did something wrong - but after working with their support group they sent out a third unit. This time...perfect. It works, just as we had hoped. They should either repackage it for delivery, mark it "Fragile" or use a different carrier.
